Kindergarten can be something a child looks forward to with excitement — or with great fears. Help your kid be ready, to show] up that together with a smile plus ready for the day!

Think about your child — will she jump right into things? Will he sit back plus watch? Does she fear the unknown or get pleasure from surprises? Use this information to anticipate your child’s reaction to that first day. For example, if your child loves surprises, speak to them regarding how the school day is crammed with great surprises, happy moments. If your child is fearful in a crowd, emphasize the solitary nature of several school activities — looking at books, listening to books on tape, arts. If your child loves a schedule, tell them about the structured nature of the day — firstis circle time, next is story time, etc. If your child is very sociable, emphasize the various alternative children who will be around. Plus if everything else fails, tell them about recess!!! If they can pack their lunch, let them select  their “favorite” at the grocery store — perhaps a pre-packaged lunch that you just rarely ever get because of expense/nutritional concerns. Once in a while, just looking forward to the lunch alone as a new, special treat, is enough! Learn more about kindergarten reading here.

Let them help purchase school supplies; engage them in the process. If you are able to, let them choose their own lunch box/backpack. Encourage the, “You’re a big girl/boy now!” line of thought. Learn from your child’s teacher if there is a structure in place (a good amount of kindergarten teachers have very structured schedules, which helps the child adjust because they will be able to anticipate what’s coming) — and use the same terms at home to familiarize the child with the terms — “circle time”, “free time”, etc. Visit the school before orientation if you have got time, simply so he/she may make their first time there a relaxed, low-key event. Visit the playground and have a picnic lunch there. Try and organize, thru the school, for a play day with different classmates prior to school starts so they have a face to look forward to seeing. Be positive plus do not allow them to see or be aware that you have even the slightest concern. They’ll take the slight concern and enlarge it in their minds — be positive, excited, happy regarding [going to|starting.
