One of the things that a lot of people forget to do is regularly evaluate and replace items as their child grows. Unlike clothing and shoes, it is sometimes difficult to know when the appropriate time to replace pieces of furniture that are regularly used.
One of the easy ways of checking furniture is to follow the manufacturers suggestions regarding maintenance, repair, and replacement. The manufacturer will often have a list of things to look for that may not be easily apparent which indicate that the furniture needs to be replaced.
There are manufacturers instructions and suggestions included in all baby furniture. This is especially important for a Graco car seat. These seats come in three different designs. One design will adapt to a growing child, starting with a rear facing function and adapting to a front facing position when the child reaches one year of age. However, if you have a seat that is not made to adapt from rear facing to front facing, you will need to replace the seat.
You may have a baby bath that fits in your kitchen sink or bathtub. These are usually made of plastic and may have a back rest built in that supports the back of the infant. Many people move directly from the infant tub to a regular one because their children don’t like being laid on their back in water. In answer to this need, designers have created an alternative that is growing in popularity.
The spa baby is a small, flower pot shaped tub that an infant can sit in. Water in the tub comes up to the infants shoulders and they are kept supported by the shape of the tub. When a person switches from a standard tub to this one, the bathing experience becomes much more pleasant. The child does not feel that they are unsupported in the water, and they are not placed in a reclining position.
Manufacturers also have suggested recommendations for replacement of infant furniture and equipment. There will be ages and weight maximums listed that will provide information about when to replace the furniture.
Infants grow so quickly and, as a parent we are so busy, that it is easy to lose track of those pieces of furniture that need to be replaced as our children grow. Making it a habit to check the furniture and equipment on a regular basis will allow you to plan on replacing the furniture before it becomes an urgent matter.
